Trump strikes Iran with new sanctions in response to nuclear program concerns
According to the Treasury Department, the U.S.' sanctions have interrupting Iran's mass production of missiles as a goal.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on June 6 a new round of economic sanctions against Iran, with the goal to increase pressure on Tehran while negotiations are still in place to limit their nuclear program. These measures come right after Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of Iran, rejected an American proposal which aimed to limit uranium enrichment in the country.
The sanctions, which targets both entities and individuals linked to the Iranian energy and military sectors, were justified by the White House as a consequence of Iran's refusal to stop its nuclear capabilities. According to the White House, these could result in the development of atomic weapons.
What prompted Trump's new sanctions against Iran?
This decision comes after nuclear conversations between the 2 countries became stilled. Donald Trump accused Iran of "purposely delay" negotiations and stated he will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. "Iran has been delaying their response in this important matter, and we will need a definitive response in a very short time" he wrote in a Truth Social post.
Almost 30 Iranian citizens and companies in the United Arab Emirates and Hong Kong have been accused of being part of a shadow banking red, which allegedly laundered thousands of millions of dollars.
Iran firmly rejected the American proposal, saying they were not beneficial to the country and its sovereign right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, according to their Supreme Leader.
Ali Khamenei lashes out at the U.S.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated his commitment towards Tehran's energy self-sufficiency, during a commemorative ceremony.
He also warned that accepting those terms would mean depending on foreign sources for nuclear fuel, which Khamenei described as unacceptable.
