Immigration protests in Los Angeles: Trump deploys the National Guard after violent clashes
After ICE opposition actions in Los Angeles, Trump, Newsom, and Defense baffled; 2,000 troops and Marines on high alert.

President Donald Trump issued the deployment orders for 2,000 National Guard troops in Los Angeles, California after two days of clashes between immigrants and federal officials. The situation escalated after ICE raids, which set off massive protests.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, confirmed Saturday, the Marines on high alert if the clashes continue. The historic conditions are being made as the country is embroiled in political disagreements between federal officials and states.
California governor's opposition: Newsom rejects deployment of federal troops
California governor Gavin Newsom rejected orders from President Trump on his X account stating, "This is the wrong mission and it would erode public trust."
Newsom also rejected the Secretary of Defense for inviting the Marines to intervene calling it "unhinged behavior." Newsom's comments illustrate a challenging relationship between state and federal governments. Moreover, conflicts in the streets have occurred using tear gas, smoke bombs, and throwing objects at police.
Public opposition: Protests at local businesses
Friday was the start of the confrontations when icy forces raided local businesses within the Los Angeles metropolitan area. Those actions instigated a reaction from immigrant advocates who joined the intervention sites and took-action against ICE.
In the following days, clashes occurred with hundreds of people. During the first rounds of clashes, riot police were dressed in protective suits and gas masks to fend off attacks made by people throwing fireworks and pieces of concrete at them.
