Lander arrested by FBI and ICE after Court rejects appeal in NYC Comptroller case
Lander's arrest occurred while he was walking arm in arm with an immigrant when FBI, ICE, and Treasury Department personnel, all wearing face masks, arrested Lander after a court hearing. Furthermore, minutes before his arrest, the court had rejected the recent appeal against the New York City Comptroller.
As the arrest was taking place, the officers moved to pull him away and arrest the immigrant, when they suddenly shouted at the guard, "Show me your warrant, show me your badge," to which the guard responded, "I'll let you go if you show me a warrant. I'd like to see the warrant, and then I'll let you go," they said.
Lander claims arrest was unlawful; wife condemns family separations as 'Abomination'
Lander stated that he is upset because they have committed an injustice. "They don't have the authority to arrest American citizens," Lander said. "I'm not obstructing, I'm right here in the hallway. They don't have the authority to arrest American citizens who request a warrant," the candidate commented.
Meg Barnette, Lander's wife, clarified that despite her husband's arrest, he is in good condition. "I know, in all likelihood, he'll be fine," Barnette said. "Everyone else in that building risks having their families torn apart without a proper explanation, and it's an abomination, and it's not what we stand for in this country," Barnette told the media. Lander remains in local police custody.
