Tragedy in Lake Tahoe: 6 dead, 2 missing after boat capsizes on California-Nevada border
A boat with 10 people capsized in Lake Tahoe after a storm, leaving six dead and two missing as search ended.

Six people have died and two are still missing after a tragic boating accident on Lake Tahoe, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The accident occurred Saturday afternoon when rough waves caused the boat to sink near the California-Nevada line.
Rescue teams searched approximately 400 square miles before suspending the search on Sunday. Authorities cited deteriorating weather and darkness as factors for their decision to cease looking for the other two passengers.
Search operations suspended as weather complicates efforts
Teams from multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard and local sheriff’s deputies, responded after receiving an alert around 3 p.m. Saturday. They covered more than 390 square miles of Lake Tahoe during a 12-hour search.
The boat, a 27-foot Chris-Craft carrying 10 people, overturned after hitting large swells created by an unexpected storm. “Suspending a search is never easy,” Cmdr. David Herndon of the Coast Guard said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones.”
Survivors rescued as community mourns loss
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, all six bodies were identified at the scene. Two injured people who were on the boat were taken to a local hospital.
This accident is one of the deadliest to occur in Lake Tahoe. The local authorities are still watching the developments at the lake as they await more updates.
