Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez and all-female crew shine in 'sexy' astronaut suits before Blue Origin rocket launch
Katy Perry, Gale King and Lauren Sánchez are making history as part of the first all-female space mission with Blue Origin. The crew will wear custom-designed astronaut suits by Monse.

Katy Perry, Lauren Sánchez, and Gayle King are set to make history by joining the first all-female space mission aboard a Blue Origin rocket on April 14, 2025. Alongside NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, astronaut Amanda Nguyen, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, the trio will embark on a groundbreaking flight that promises to be as stylish as it is historic.
In preparation for the mission, the women will be wearing custom-designed astronaut suits by Monse. These suits, created with both functionality and fashion in mind, feature fitted designs made of flame-resistant neoprene and tailored for comfort and style. The women shared their plans for glam routines and what they hope to bring to space — including a little bit of sparkle and a lot of astronaut chic.

All-female crew will wear 'sexy' design astronaut suits
For this historic flight, the women will wear custom-designed astronaut suits created by Monse. Sánchez, 55, shared with The New York Times that she began collaborating with Monse co-founders Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim in late 2024 to create the suits.
“Typically, these suits are designed for men,” Sánchez explained, pointing out that they are then "tailored" for women. But that won’t be the case for this crew, as the suits for the Blue Origin astronauts are made of "flame-resistant stretch neoprene" that are figure-flattering and customizable. Features like zippers on the calves help achieve a flared leg look, and each astronaut underwent a 3-D body scan to ensure a perfect fit.
Sánchez described the final design as "elegant" with a touch of spice, while Garcia mentioned they wanted to maintain simplicity but also add a hint of danger to the suits, drawing inspiration from motocross gear and ski suits.
“I almost put a corset in your suit, because I know you wouldn’t have minded it,” Garcia joked with Sánchez, who agreed she would have embraced the idea
Although creating a "flattering and sexy" look was part of the design goal, Sánchez emphasized that the suits had to be functional for the flight. She recalled testing the prototypes, saying, "I was stretching. I was doing a backbend. I was like, ‘Okay, let’s make sure it doesn’t split up the back in space.’"
In an interview with Elle, Sánchez, Perry, 40, and King, 70, shared their glam routines for the space trip. “Who wouldn’t get glam before the flight?!" Sánchez laughed. "We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!"
Perry added, “Space is going to finally be glam. If I could take glam up with me, I’d do that. We are going to put the ‘ass’ in astronaut.”
