Florida is a very popular state. A lot of people are moving to the "Sunshine State," home of Miami Beach, Orlando's theme parks for the whole family, and eternal summer weather. Maybe you think it’s a good idea to move there, but you should know this about Florida.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), the average cost of living per person in the state is around $51,000 annually, meaning that someone must earn $4,000 per month to live comfortably in Florida. This, along with other facts, will help you understand how much you need to make to move to Florida.

How much should be my annual income to live in Florida?

Obviously, Miami and Orlando are the cities with the highest cost of living expenses. According to Axios, the monthly rent is around $2,700. But in cities like Jacksonville and Gainesville, the monthly average is around $1,500, a more affordable amount. Based on the standard that housing should not exceed 30% of household income, you must have an annual income of approximately $90,000.

But that math only applies to housing. According to SoFi Learn, and based on the MIT Living Wage Calculator, a single person must make $46,645, and people with children must earn $75,959. This math accounts for transportation, living expenses like utilities, and healthcare costs.

What kind of jobs are in Florida?

Here is a list of salary expectations in Florida according to the industry:

  • Healthcare workers: $60,000–$150,000 depending on role and experience.
  • Software developers: $70,000–$120,000.

  • Real estate agents: Commission-based, with potential to earn $50,000–$100,000+.
