First look at the return of King of the Hill: This is how its most beloved characters look now
Hulu unveils the first official image from the upcoming King of the Hill reboot, showing Hank and the gang adapting to modern life.

Hulu has officially revealed the first image from its highly anticipated "King of the Hill" revival, offering fans a glimpse of the now older and modernized characters. The image features longtime friends Hank Hill, Bill Dauterive, Dale Gribble, and Boomhauer gathered outside Hank’s house, much like in the original series — but with noticeable changes that reflect the passage of time.
Set to continue the story years after the original show ended, the revival appears to depict the characters adjusting to life in the present day. Bill is shown carrying a bag of food from a delivery service, Dale is using a vape while wearing a VR headset, and Boomhauer is reading from a tablet. While Hank maintains his signature look, his posture and expression hint at the challenges of aging in a new era.
No release date yet, but the revival is "coming soon"
While Hulu has yet to announce an official release date, the streaming platform confirmed that the new episodes are expected to arrive "soon." The revival will see original co-creators Mike Judge and Greg Daniels return as executive producers, with Judge once again voicing Hank Hill. The project is being produced by 20th Television Animation and Bandera Entertainment, alongside executive producers Dustin Davis, Michael Rottenberg, and Howard Klein of 3 Arts.
The series has yet to confirm how it will handle the absence of key characters such as Luanne and Lucky, whose original voice actors Brittany Murphy and Tom Petty have passed away. Similarly, Dale’s voice actor Johnny Hardwick also died in 2023. Fans are curious to see how the show will navigate these character changes while preserving the original spirit of the series.

King of the Hill joins list of animated revivals on Hulu
This revival marks another addition to Hulu’s growing list of animated comebacks, following its reboot of "Futurama." King of the Hill, which originally aired from 1997 to 2009 on Fox, gained acclaim for its grounded humor, cultural commentary, and depiction of small-town life in Texas. Its return aims to strike a balance between nostalgia and contemporary relevance.
The aging of the main characters could allow the show to explore new themes, including generational shifts, technology, and family evolution — all within the familiar tone that made the original series a fan favorite. As anticipation builds, long-time viewers will be eager to see how the series reinvents itself for a modern audience.
