New songs for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in "Wicked: For Good"
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Jon M. Chu teased the new songs, saying “I think it’s been reported we have two new songs”. According to him, they were necessary to help tell the story along.
Stephen Schwartz, the composer for the "Wicked" Original Broadway show, performed the task of creating these new additions. “To have Stephen Schwartz back behind the keys… it’s pretty extraordinary to watch him work,” said Chu.

Chu continued, recalling that the first time Erivo and Grande met with him: “the girls came to my house in person and sang ‘For Good’ on my piano.” However, the director shared a special detail the cast had been withholding: Stephen Schwartz was the one playing the instrument for them.
After they sang, Schwartz offered to show them the songs he had been preparing for the film: "Would you guys like to hear the songs I’m thinking of for you?" Erivo and Grande obviously accepted.
Grande and Erivo’s emotional performance
Fans of the movie may not be as familiar with the songs that will be performed for the sequel as fans of the musical. However, Jon M. Chu assured them the songs will be completely up to their standards.
“‘No Good Deed’ is just a f***ing banger,” he said. “I don’t even know how to use safe words for that. Cynthia on that thing is just ridiculous. And ‘As Long as You’re Mine’ — it’s just gorgeous", he praised the stars.
