Attentions buyers! Walgreens is closing this locations on June
More than 20 Walgreens stores will close this month in the U.S. as part of a strategy to close at least 500 locations by 2025, seeking to reduce costs and improve performance.

More than 20 Walgreens stores will be shut down this month in the U.S. This is part of a larger strategy aimed at closing at least 500 stores during 2025. This was announced in October 2024, as the company looks to cut costs and close underperforming locations.
Walgreens is the most well-known retail pharmacy store in the country, and the second largest, just behind CVS Pharmacy. Tim Wentworth said: "We are confident that there will be significant long-term financial and consumer benefits from the closure of the stores."

Why is Walgreens closing stores?
Like many other companies, Walgreens is facing the consequences of the post-pandemic effects, including the decrease in foot traffic, the rise of online shopping, and inflation. Additionally, the company reported a $3 billion loss in the last quarter of 2024. According to Wentworth, only 6,000 of the 8,500 stores across the U.S. are profitable.
They have been closing around 2,000 stores over the past decade. This measure aims to close 1,200 more stores in the next 3 years, especially those with low performance. Some experts have said that the closures are the only option to compete in the online market and with rising prices.
