The New York Giants have strengthened their defensive line by signing veteran defensive tackle Jeremiah Ledbetter to a one-year contract worth $1.775 million, with incentives that could push the total above $2 million. Ledbetter, 31, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2017 and had an impressive 2024 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars. During that campaign, he recorded two sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a total of 38 tackles. His experience and versatility make him a valuable addition to the Giants' defensive depth.

Throughout his career, Ledbetter has played in 53 games, starting in five, while contributing to teams such as the Lions, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Jaguars. Additionally, in 2021, he was part of the Arizona Cardinals' practice squad. His ability to perform in various defensive schemes has been a key factor in the Giants' decision to bring him in during this phase of free agency.

The Giants have been active in the market, focusing on strengthening both the offensive and defensive lines after a season plagued by injuries. In addition to Ledbetter, the team has acquired defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris and offensive linemen Greg Van Roten, Aaron Stinnie, James Hudson III, and Stone Forsythe. With these signings, the franchise aims to establish more stability and improve performance in the trenches.

Ledbetter is expected to take on a rotational role within the Giants’ defensive line, providing depth behind star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence. His presence gives the team greater flexibility in rotating players and maintaining freshness on the defensive front, particularly in high-intensity matchups.

This strategic signing reflects the Giants’ commitment to strengthening their defense ahead of the upcoming season, with the goal of enhancing their competitiveness in the league. With a mix of young talent and experienced players, New York aims to build a defense capable of making a difference in crucial moments of the game.
