Inside Canelo Álvarez's training routine: Mexican boxer adjusts preparation to face William Scull
The Mexican boxer, Canelo Álvarez, is adjusting his schedule and workouts in preparation for his May 3 fight in Saudi Arabia.

Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez is finalizing details for his upcoming fight against William Scull, scheduled for this Saturday, May 3, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This will be the first time the Mexican boxer fights outside of Mexico and the United States, which has meant several adjustments to his usual training routine.
The time zone change and the specific conditions of the event have forced the boxer to make changes to his sleep, training, and eating schedules. The fight will take place at 6:00 a.m. local time in Riyadh, which has led Canelo to adapt his daily routine to arrive in optimal physical and mental condition.
New schedules and combat-adapted training
To align with the fight schedule, Álvarez has significantly moved up his schedule. According to statements to Mexican media, the boxer goes to bed around 5 p.m. and wakes up at 4 a.m. During those early hours, he trains with his trainer, Eddy Reynoso.
His daily routine includes a 30-minute morning run, according to GQ magazine. This cardiovascular activity, adopted after a previous suspension, has remained a constant in his physical preparation. Afterward, the boxer has breakfast and heads to the gym to continue with strength and technique exercises.
Exercises, technique and personalized nutrition
Core and stability work play an important role in his training routine. Canelo performs leg lifts, planks, and medicine ball throws to strengthen his abdominal area. He also includes skipping rope as a fundamental part of his preparation, an exercise that improves coordination, reflexes, and agility.
On a technical level, Álvarez trains specific movements and combat strategies. These sessions, which can last up to three hours, include shadow boxing, boxing practice, and sparring sessions. As for his diet, he maintains a high-protein focus, with foods like tuna, fish, and eggs. Due to his new rest schedule, he has eliminated dinner from his diet.
