Universal Pictures has just released the teaser for Shrek 5, generating mixed reactions from fans on the internet. What has captured the attention of fans is the evident change in the appearance of the characters, which has generated a mixture of surprise, discontent and, as could not be missed, many memes.

The official account of Universal Pictures published a video with the description “Far Far Away's Finest are coming”, showing the magic mirror that now functions as a For You Page on TikTok. As we see Shrek's hand scrolling, he suddenly appears facing Pinocchio, Donkey, Shrek, Fiona and his daughter, who is played by none other than Euphoria's star Zendaya.

Shrek 5 trailer reaction

Although the film is scheduled to be released in 2026, the teaser has been enough for fans of the franchise to express their discontent. One of the many details that caught fans' attention was the inclusion of only one of Shrek and Fiona's kids, as they had triplets in 'Shrek the Third'. One fan commented: “Didn’t they have triplets?”

Many others have also criticized that the character design is too far from the classic aesthetic that characterized the first Shrek installments. Some have even speculated that the new designs could have been created with artificial intelligence, due to their uncanny appearance and distance from the original essence of Shrek.

Fans are shocked by Shrek's new look

It is evident that the design of the characters is different from the one that identified them in the four previous installments. This new look has been the main issue for fans, as they took to social media to voice their concerns and share their opinions regarding the new image.

“They are going to have to change this style as soon as possible”, “What did they do to them!?”, “God, take me now”, and “They look like they were made with AI” were some reactions written in X (formerly Twitter).
