Pokémon Legends: Z-A latest trailer was revealed on Thursday, amid Pokémon Day celebration. The video game will launch for Nintendo Switch in late 2025. This new look at the video game has fans excited for features such as the return of Lumiose City, which first appeared in Pokémon X and Y, but now reworked with a new urban design and better mechanics.

It has been a year since Pokémon Legends: Z-A was officially announced by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The silence has been overwhelming but, within the framework of Pokémon Day 2025, fans have a glimpse of the next installment of the franchise. The game will have features such as the return of second generation Pokémon, Mega Evolutions and other gameplay updates.

First look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A includes real-time battles

The new trailer for Pokémon Legends: Z-A has allowed players to see the game in motion for the first time, confirming that the adventure will take place entirely in Lumiose City, the heart of the Kalos region, first seen in Pokémon: Arceus. Here are some areas that have wild Pokémon, but it is arranged so that coexistence between these creatures and humans is pacific.

As in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you only need to throw a Pokéball to capture it, and we can use attacks from our partner to weaken it. The combats also maintain the same dynamics in “real time”, having to pay attention when releasing an attack and moving according to its range. This allows for a fluid and dynamic game experience.

Return of Mega Evolutions and featured Pokémon

A fan-favorite feature is also back: Mega Evolutions. This allows trainers to take some Pokémon in their most mature state to a higher level of battle. Characters like Charizard, Gyarados and Lucario, will have a different design and extra power in their attacks, which can be a determining factor in battle.

The new Pokémon starters for this video game include:

  • Chikorita (Plant type)
  • Totodile (Water type)
  • Tepig (Fire type)

There is a key character in the story of the 2013 games who will surely influence this one as well, which tells us where in the Pokémon timeline Legends ZA will be placed.
