A decade after its initial release, a movie written by Taylor Sheridan has made a huge impact on streaming platforms, with his 2015 film 'Sicario' now trending on Netflix. Sheridan, a prolific writer and creator of popular shows like Yellowstone, continues to captivate audiences across multiple entertainment mediums.

Taylor Sheridan became widely recognized in Hollywood for writing the screenplays of acclaimed films like 'Hell or High Water', starring Chris Pine. However, his career took a significant turn in 2018 when he transitioned to the world of prestige television. He created the 'Yellowstone' series, which has since expanded into multiple prequels and spinoffs, including 1883, 1923, and more projects currently in development. Sheridan has also made his mark as an executive producer of successful shows such as 'Special Ops: Lioness', 'Tulsa King', and 'Mayor of Kingstown'.

Sicario: A Critical and Commercial Success

The 2015 film Sicario, written by Sheridan and directed by Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Dune), has returned to the spotlight. The movie, starring Emily Blunt as FBI agent Kate Macer, centers around a tense mission targeting a Mexican cartel leader. The film was both a commercial and critical hit, grossing $85 million against its $30 million budget. With a Certified Fresh rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, 'Sicario' later spawned a 2018 sequel, 'Day of the Soldado'. The movie's star-studded cast also includes Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jon Bernthal.

Sicario makes waves on Netflix US top 10

After debuting on Netflix on March 1, Sicario quickly shot to No. 8 on the U.S. Netflix Top 10 chart for the week of February 24 through March 2. The film's position is notable, especially considering it was the highest-ranked movie over three years old, outpacing other newer titles like Counterattack (No. 3) and Venom: The Last Dance (No. 1).

Although the chart won't be updated again until March 11, Sicario has already climbed to No. 2 on Netflix's daily chart of most-watched U.S. films as of March 7. The film's impressive performance within just two days of streaming suggests that it has the potential to rise further, solidifying its position among the platform's most-watched films.

Taylor Sheridan's streaming dominance

The resurgence of Sicario on Netflix further cements Taylor Sheridan's success in the world of streaming. A recent report revealed that his Paramount+ series, including Yellowstone, its prequels, Mayor of Kingstown, and Special Ops: Lioness, have collectively earned more than $260 million for the streaming platform between 2021 and 2024. With upcoming projects like Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, and Demi Moore, Sheridan's impact on the entertainment industry continues to grow.
