In her debut memoir, "Matriarch", Tina Knowles, mother of global superstars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, shares a deeply personal account of her battle with breast cancer.

The 71-year-old former fashion designer opens up about her diagnosis, treatment, and the support of her family as she faced this life-altering health challenge.

Tina Knowles’s breast cancer diagnosis and surgery

In the book, Tina Knowles revealed she was diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2024, after she was not diligent with her mammogram for 4 years. She says the diagnosis came back as a shock, but she was lucky enough that, according to her doctor, the cancer was at Stage 1A.

She had 2 tumors, one cancerous one in her left breast and a benign one in her right one, which also had to be surgically removed. The surgery was performed in August 2024 along with a breast reduction.

Beyoncé and Solange were Tina Knowles "team"

In the memoir, she recalled how her daughter provided her with the best care they could. While Beyoncé was ensuring her mother had the best specialists and insisting she was on speaker while her mother had a consultation with the infectious disease specialist, Solange also had an active role ensuring her well-being.

“The doctor was impressed with her questions; I was impressed by her care,” she shared in her memoir.
