Oscar-nominee Jesse Plemons has been cast as Plutarch Heavensbee in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, a prequel to the original series.
Lionsgate has officially cast Jesse Plemons in the role of Plutarch Heavensbee for the upcoming film 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'.
Plemons, an Oscar-nominated actor, will bring to life a younger version of the iconic character, who was previously portrayed by the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay' – Parts 1 and 2. Plemons’ portrayal is expected to offer a unique interpretation while paying tribute to Hoffman's unforgettable performance.

Jesse Plemons' casting as Plutarch Heavensbee is not surprising, as there were many rumors and "fan casts" placing him as one of the ideal options to portray Philip Seymour Hoffman's younger version in the new Hunger Games' prequel. His previous critically acclaimed dramatic roles, further proved this point.
Better known for his roles in 'The Power of the Dog', 'Kinds of Kindness', and 'Killers of the Flower Moon', Plemons has a reputation of portraying complex and multi-layered characters. What is the plot of 'The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping'?
The movie is an adaptation of Suzanne Collin's most recent book in the "Hunger Games" universe, "Sunrise on the Reaping" and will be focused on Haymitch Abernathy, Katniss and Peeta's mentor and how he won the 50th Hunger Games, also known as: The Second Quarter Quell.
The story takes place 24 years before the events of the first Hunger Games movies, and will likely also explore the roots of the rebellion, how Heavensbee's pivotal role in the rebellion later came to be. The film adaptation of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be released on November 20, 2026.
