Big Lots is making a significant return under new ownership, with plans to reopen 132 stores across 14 states in May. The first wave of stores will reopen on May 1, followed by a second wave on May 15. These reopenings are part of Big Lots' strategy to attract more customers with a fresh selection of products, including closeouts, treasure hunt items, and unbeatable bargains.
This move comes under the leadership of Variety Wholesales, the new owner of Big Lots, which has already seen positive customer feedback from earlier reopenings in April. The stores will span a variety of markets, from major metropolitan areas to smaller towns, and will offer a wide range of products, including everyday household items, apparel, and popular brand selections.
Big Lots announces reopening stores in May
The retailer will open 132 stores across 14 states in May, with the first wave of openings scheduled for May 1 and a second round on May 15. North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania will see the most reopenings.
These store opening, managed by new owners Variety Wholesales, are a continuation of the positive customer response to Big Lots' initial reopenings in April, the company reported.

Which Big Lots stores will be open in May?
Earlier this year, Big Lots finalized a sale agreement with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. As part of the deal, Variety acquired approximately 200 Big Lots stores, which was part of the chain's restructuring after filing for bankruptcy and holding store closing sales as it nearly 950 locations worldwide.
