In response to a recent crash in Las Vegas, Amazon's Zoox, the self-driving car company acquired by Amazon in 2020, has issued a software recall for 270 of its robotaxis. The recall was prompted by a defect in the vehicle’s automated driving system that could lead to inaccurate predictions about the movement of other cars, heightening the risk of a crash.
This development has raised concerns regarding the safety of autonomous vehicles, particularly as Zoox’s robotaxis are being tested in multiple U.S. cities.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the accident was due to Zoox's automated driving system, and the company's internal investigation discovered that it was a software flaw which caused the robotaxi to misinterpret the other car's actions, which resulted in the accident.

Zoox’s swift response and software update
After identifying the problem, Zoox was quick to solve the problem with a new software update to all of its vehicles. The company paused its driverless services, including robotaxis and test fleets, while investigating the issue but quickly resumed its operations since the software update.
Zoox emphasized that the update is now live across all vehicles in use and should mitigate the risk of future incidents.
