Elon Musk ends government role amid debate on Trump’s fiscal bill
Elon Musk leaves the Trump administration after expressing disappointment over a fiscal bill he says would worsen the U.S. deficit.

Elon Musk has announced he is stepping back from the role of head of the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and as Trump's advisor.
While his 130-day mandate as a special government employee in the Trump administration was set to expire about 30 May, he made the announcement on May 28, via post on his X account.

Musk's departure from the Trump administration was unceremonious, but he has been hinting at his departure from Washington, and his commitment to return to his business ventures, all week.

In the post announcing he was leaving, Musk thanked Trump for the opportunity to "reduce wasteful spending".
Musk criticizes Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill”
Earlier this week, Elon Musk criticized the “Big, Beautiful Bill” Donald Trump was championing for. On a CBS interview, he said he was disappointed over how the bill would undermine DOGE's hard work.
"I think a bill can be big, or it can be beautiful. But I don't know if it can be both," Musk said in the interview.
