King of the Hill’ voice actor Jonathan Joss, who played John Redcorn, shot and killed at 59
Jonathan Joss, who voiced John Redcorn and starred in Tulsa King, died after a reported neighborhood dispute.

Jonathan Joss, an actor best known for voicing John Redcorn on the now-classic animated series King of the Hill, was shot and killed outside his house in his San Antonio neighborhood on June 1. He was 59 years old.
San Antonio police said the event began as an argument with a neighbor that led to gunfire, and the suspect was arrested later that night. Joss's death comes only weeks before the King of the Hill reboot premieres on Hulu.
A career of iconic roles and personal struggles
Besides King of the Hill, Joss played security chief Bad Face in Tulsa King, and other appearances in Parks and Recreation, Walker, Texas Ranger, and the 2010 remake of True Grit. He was well-regarded within the Native American and voice acting communities.
In the weeks leading to his passing, Joss was openly frustrated that he had not been invited to a recent King of the Hill reunion in Austin. In a social media post, he said he felt snubbed and that it hurt, noting that he had a legitimate and deep personal relationship with the character he had developed over many years.

Personal losses before his death
Joss lost his home and three dogs in a fire just months before the fatal incident. In a poignant post on April 21, he stated he was “rebuilding, little by little” after losing his things, his memories, and his friends. In his last Facebook post that very day and hours before the shooting, he stated he found a ride back to San Antonio after making an appearance at a comic book store in Austin.
Joss is the second King of the Hill cast member connected to the Nancy Gribble storylines to die unexpectedly. Johnny Hardwick, the actor who voiced Dale Gribble, was found dead in August 2023. Toby Huss was announced to take over the Dale voice for the upcoming reboot. It is unclear whether Joss was involved in the reboot production leading up to his death.
