George R.R. Martin about Game of Thrones unfinished books: "Some of You Will Be Pissed by This"

In a recent statement, the author of the saga admitted to having lost interest in concluding the novel.

George R.R. Martin is the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire book saga that inspired HBO's Game of Thrones, the successful TV show starring Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, and Kit Harington. Despite the show ending, Martin promised two new books that will put an end to the novel adventures, called The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

However, fans have been waiting for 14 years since the writer made the announcement. Martin has been working on different projects since then. But his last statement, published in The Hollywood Reporter, might disappoint some waiting readers. George is working on a non-GoT project.

What did Martin say about the books?

Last Wednesday, the author discussed with The Hollywood Reporter an adult animated feature film adapting A Dozen Tough Jobs, Howard Waldrop's book. In Martin's communication blog, in a new entry called Howard Meets Hercules, the writer explained the situation regarding the two promised books.

"Some of you will just be pissed off by this," Martin posted, "as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER. You have given up on me, or on the book. I will never finish WINDS. If I do, I will never finish A DREAM OF SPRING (...) I lost all interest in A Song of Ice and Fire decades ago."

Another author could continue the saga

As George posted, Winds and Spring would not even be released by him. In another part of the statement, he shared his thoughts on letting some other writer finish the books, saying that he is too old and tired to accomplish the promise. Despite these declarations, Martin also wrote that he cares about the story, but apparently not enough to end the saga.

When Game of Thrones ended, many fans were upset due to the final plot of the show. Critics also called it bad, and even the actors talked about that chapter of the series. However, Martin promised a different ending, because every season of the show was inspired by the books—this also fed the hype until now, when Martin showed that he might not finish the novels.
