California and Nevada face a Listeria outbreak found on ready-to-eat products that has sickened 10 people, leading to hospitalizations.

Recent outbreaks of Listeria have resulted in a dangerous product alert for California and Nevada states as individuals have been admitted to a hospital for consuming ready-to-eat products such as sandwiches. The outbreak of Listeria infection has been linked back to Fresh & Ready Foods LLC. the bacteria, Listeria monocytogenes, were positive in the ready-made food products.
Although the initial contamination took place at the end of 2023 and early 2024, recent investigations and inspections have brought the issue back to the forefront. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), individuals of 41 to 87 ages are among at-risk groups. Therefore, the recent spread and common source of contamination have taken health officials to recall and put public concern on ready-to-eat food items in the region.
Which products are affected by Listeria bacteria?
The recall includes products sold under the following brands:
- Fresh & Ready Foods
- City Point Market Fresh Food to Go
- Fresh Take Crave Away
The products in question, including sandwiches, snack boxes, and pastas, have use-by dates between April 22, 2025, and May 19, 2025. A full list of affected products is available on the FDA website.
The recalled products were distributed across four states, including hospitals, hotels, airports, convenience stores, and airlines in: Washington, Arizona, California and Nevada.
Although illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported in California and Nevada, the products were distributed more widely.
What you should do in those cases?
If you have any of the recalled items, follow these steps:
- Dispose of the products.
- Clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that came into contact with the affected items.
- Watch for symptoms of Listeria infection, such as fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, and balance loss.
In severe cases, Listeria can cause invasive listeriosis, which is more likely to affect pregnant individuals, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
Listeriosis typically causes fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and muscle aches. In more severe cases, it can lead to neck stiffness, confusion, balance problems, or seizures. In pregnant women, it can result in miscarriage or infection in the newborn.
