A few minutes ago, a powerful 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Lima, Peru. The epicenter was recorded in Callao.

The Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP) recorded a strong earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude with an epicenter 30 kilometers southwest of the Constitutional Province of Callao. According to reports, a 3.6 magnitude aftershock with an epicenter in the same location has just been reported. The Peruvian Navy has also recently dismissed a tsunami warning on its social media channels.

The latest updates report images of landslides on the cliffs of the Costa Verde. Likewise, one death has been reported after a wall collapse and several accidents, although the exact number has not yet been released. However, Civil Defense reports mention significant material damage in Lima and Callao.
Peruvian President Boluarte calls for calm after Lima quake and warns against elevator use
Peruvian President Dina Boluarte called for calm and the implementation of all possible safety measures to assist Peruvian citizens. Measures were also implemented to clear Lima's coastal roads and all roads that have been affected in Lima and Callao.

First death confirmed after Peru earthquake: Man killed by collapsing wall in Lima
The first death from the earthquake in Peru has just been confirmed. The Peruvian National Police reported that 36-year-old Jonatan Teófilo Ventura Vega died as a result of the earthquake, which had its epicenter in the Constitución province of Callao.

Ventura Vega died when a portion of the fourth-floor wall of a home in the Independencia district of Lima collapsed and fell on the victim. The man was riding his motorcycle taxi waiting for a ride in the Hermitage area when the incident occurred.
