The Cincinnati Bearcats football program is mourning the sudden loss of freshman offensive lineman Jeremiah Kelly, who died unexpectedly at the age of 18.
The university confirmed his death on Tuesday, though the cause has not been disclosed.
Jeremiah Kelly: a promising young athlete
Jeremiah Kelly was a star player for Avon High School in Ohio and a three-star prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle, helping Avon High School to keep an undefeated record of 16-0, as well as a state championship victory.
Kelly chose University of Cincinnati over Akron and had the opportunity to join them as one of the Bearcats’ early enrollees this spring.

Cincinnati head coach Scott Satterfield expressed his grief, stating that even though his time with the Bearcats had been very brief, Kelly left a significant impact on the team.
"The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man," Satterfield said. "Jeremiah made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. He continued extending his condolences to the family.
