Kanye West, the rapper known for his outspoken and controversial behavior, recently took to social media to claim that his long-standing feud with Taylor Swift is one of the main reasons he has never been invited to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), West explained that multiple high-profile incidents — including his infamous interruption of Swift’s 2009 MTV VMAs speech — contributed to his exclusion.

  • Saying George Bush doesn't care about black people
  • His feud with Taylor Swift
  • Starting to support MAGA

According to West, these moments had a lasting impact on his ability to land the coveted Super Bowl performance spot.

The 2009 MTV VMA incident

Kanye West's long-standing feud with Taylor Swift started in 2009, at the MTV Video Music Awards, when the rapper interrupted Swift, while she was giving a speech after winning Best Female Video award for You Belong With Me, to declare that Beyoncé deserved the award instead.

While both parties were friends after the incident, West released his song Famous in 2016 in which he said “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex, Why? I made that bitch famous. Goddamn, I made that bitch famous.”

Has Kanye West ever performed at the Super Bowl halftime show?

While Kanye West has never headlined a Super Bowl halftime show, he did perform with Rihanna during a pre-Super Bowl event in 2015. However, after his recent problematic declarations it is very unlikely he ever will.
