Ellen Pompeo, the iconic star of Grey’s Anatomy, recently revealed the reasons behind her decision to never leave the show for good.

After 21 years of portraying Dr. Meredith Grey, Pompeo shared that leaving the show permanently would be both emotionally and financially unwise.

Ellen Pompeo shares why she won’t leave Grey’s Anatomy for good

Yes, Ellen Pompeo is still part of the cast of Grey's Anatomy. In an interview with "El País" she explained that walking away from the show would make no sense whatsoever, as the show continues to provide great finnancial opportunities.

She stated that only in 2024, the series was streamed over a billion times "If I were to walk away completely, everybody gets to make money from my hard work for 20 years, and I wouldn’t make any money."

She also explained that she knows how much the show means to many people, “I want to have an attitude of gratitude toward the show,” she said.

Ellen Pompeo's 'Good American Family'

However, she now has significantly reduced her on-screen presence and has a smaller role in these last seasons. This is because she feels that after almost 20 years, it was time for a change: “I have three children, and I love spending time with them," she shared, stating they are her top priority.

"Good American Family" allows her to spend more time with her children and is her first major role since Grey's Anatomy. Pompeo described the experience as: “thrilling” and “terrifying,” acknowledging the challenge of being seen as a different character.
