The website which published the article, Protoolreviews.com, stated that to avoid the parking fee, customers must spend over $250 in a single visit. They would receive in-store credit to cover the parking. However, Home Depot Pro Xtra members would be able to park for free after they had spent the amount of $1000 annually.

The article suggested that the parking fees would over the cost of store improvements, such as an upgrade in the variety of the inventory and the self-checkout systems.

The news quickly sparked outrage from loyal Home Depot customers, who quickly shared their frustration online. However, after the confusion and backlash, it was revealed it was an April Fools' joke.
