Two American citizens were arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting an Uber taxi driver in Denmark's capital. The incident occurred when the passengers, who were friends, took an app-based taxi on March 31.

The two men were sentenced to 10 days in pretrial detention. However, as Owen Ray, one of the two Americans, was about to board a flight, he was detained at the gate by police.

Statements from the Americans and the taxi driver

It is known that the Uber taxi driver reported that he was attacked by these two individuals while providing the taxi service. Police used this initial report as a starting point to open the corresponding investigation into the case.

However, the Ray family's attorney indicates that the two individuals took the taxi to a local hotel, but the driver took them to the wrong destination. Ray and his friend then got out of the vehicle, indicating they would pay for the service through the app. Sometime later, the taxi driver returned to threaten them. The driver allegedly physically assaulted the young men, and a fight ensued.

Uber's Position: What does the company say about this?

Given the statements from both parties, the taxi company Uber plays a key role in the investigation. Therefore, the company stated that the two passengers argued in the back of the vehicle and that at the end of the trip, they assaulted the taxi driver. It also added that the trip was listed as paid for.

The company also indicated that it takes reports of violence very seriously. According to Section 244 of the Penal Code, if the two passengers are found guilty, they would be fined and imprisoned for three years.
