Strong 6.4 Earthquake hits Northern Chile, no Tsunami alert issued
A strong earthquake occurred in Chile, specifically impacting the regions of Antofagasta and Coquimbo.

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Chile at 1:15 p.m. local time, with the greatest impact in the north of the country, especially in the Antofagasta and Coquimbo regions.
According to information provided by the National Seismological Center (CSN), the epicenter was 54.09 km south of Diego de Almagro in the Chañaral region of Atacama, with a depth of 33 kilometers.
The Chilean Navy's Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOA) has stated that, due to the characteristics of the earthquake, the necessary conditions for a tsunami to occur along Chile's coast are not met. So far, no serious injuries have been reported from the earthquake.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Prevention and Response System (Senapred) stated that it continues to assess damage to infrastructure, basic services, and people, and that any updates will be provided through incident or emergency reports.
The Deputy Director of Emergency Management for Senapred, Miguel Ortiz, reported that the earthquake caused power outages for nearly 23,000 customers in the Atacama region. "Some minor landslides have been recorded, which are being monitored and coordinated with the municipalities," Ortiz said.
